Module 5A: Introduction to Multisensory Environments and Audits
For learners who benefit from a multisensory learning approach, we need to maximise the classroom environment to support learning.
Getting it right is tricky! Your classroom and other learning environments need to engage those learners who require a greater amount of stimulation, but not bombard other learners who need much less stimulation.
An audit will help you understand why some learners with sensory issues struggle and find it difficult to concentrate and learn in some learning environments. It will make you aware of the issues and barriers in the environment which influence learning and to identify the relevant changes to be made.
Key Points
- Environmental factors can influence learners successful learning
- An audit helps you to identify these barriers to learning and gives you a framework to work towards improving/reducing these
Thinking Point
Have you noticed how some learners are more successful in learning in different environments? What factors do you think might contribute to this? Which environments in your school do you think are effective or not effective for learners.
